Testing the Waters on Your First Date
Almost anyone could use a little planning advice on their first date, often simply because that first meeting can be a nerve wracking experience. By taking the time to prepare yourself for the experience you and your date get the benefit of avoiding any obvious blunders, on your side of things anyway.
Before the Date:
Prior to the date itself you can test some basic ideas out simply by communicating with your date before you head out on the town. When trying to plan a date, for example, you can tell a great deal about the other person; how well do they address your desires for location, food type or interests? Though you may not want to call a date off simply because the person chooses the location without your showing any enthusiasm, it certainly is something to note about the person's personality.
Another great signal to watch for is how well the other person communicates with you. Some couples are extremely relaxed about times while others have strict schedules to keep and if one person is the former type, while the other is the latter, it may show some immediate conflict in the relationship. A lack of commitment to a time and date can also be a great way to weed out potentials when looking for those who show serious signs of wanting to be in a relationship.
For those heading out on a blind date that will have little or no communication with their intended it is important to ask questions about the person before the date takes place. Often in these situations a mutual friend(s) is responsible for the romantic setup and may be able to offer some excellent insight into the nature of your date's personality.
More and more singles are looking to online dating to find romance and fun dates and many sites allow for some excellent opportunities to find out a lot about a person before you invest too much time. When making use of online dating communities you will have the opportunity to be selective about your romantic candidates and browse profiles at your convenience.
Those who have a great deal of difficulty meeting a person because that person has canceled on them multiple times may want to keep in mind that even if they should have the opportunity to finally go out with this person, they may have a lot of waiting around to do and disappointment ahead.
On the Date:
The way in which a date functions allows plenty of little opportunities for you to find out a great deal of information in a short amount of time if you pay close attention. It is important to keep in mind when on your current date that such interferences as nervousness or shyness may cloud a person's usual behavior, but in general there is much to be learned from subtle actions.
How a person acts when trying to break the ice may reveal a great deal about their personality. Some choose to be very crude, hoping to overcome shyness, while others attempt a series of conversations that often trail off into nothing. Make sure to note how your date's conversation starter comes across to you because it may be an indication of how the person acts when under stress, which is sure to find its' way into a relationship now and then.
Observations about how your date treats the other people around you can be another big indication of everyday personality traits. While your date may be on their best behavior for your benefit, you can often tell if this trait is genuine or false by watching how your date treats others such as servers, hostesses or other people you may encounter in a serving capacity.
It is often an excellent sign that your date hopes to win your favor when you are asked about whether or not you are enjoying yourself. As simple a question as it may appear on the surface there are many people who neglect to consider the person they are out with and this often indicates a more selfish nature in general.
While some measure of nervousness is to be expected, after a reasonable portion of time has passed during the date it may be a real sign of trouble if your date is still unable to relax. Though there could be a reasonable explanation for this behavior it may also be a warning sign of some deeper conflict within your date that you may not want to get involved with.
Those who have their heart set on finding love should be watchful for any signs that indicate that your date is not taking in the information you are offering. If when discussing issues that are important to you your date seems to be responding only distantly this maybe a sign that they have no interest in anything serious.
Ending the Date:
Expressing the desire to meet again is a common enough occurrence at the end of a date, even it isn't true. If your date has gone well from your point of view and you are uncertain about how your date might feel, allow them to mention getting in contact again. If your date fails to do so, it might just be best to let it go.
If at the end of your date you begin to feel as though your date is being, or perhaps has already been too pushy about physical interaction this is an important signal to pay attention to. This type of behavior often indicates a very selfish nature and no desire to form a meaningful relationship. Those who are concerned about their futures in a prospective romance do not often rush such intimacies as they are more concerned with the overall impression that they leave.
The most vital step for getting all of the information you can about a person on your first date is simply to be as perceptive as possible while still allowing yourself to have a good time.
It is often the little signs that go ignored that creep back into a person's mind at the end of a relationship followed by the phrase "I should have known." By watching for any signs of traits which you believe will not mesh well with your own you can more efficiently eliminate prospective romances that are more likely to fail and more quickly find the right person for your life.
